Patient Safety
The Washington Healthcare Forum began studying the issue of patient safety and medical liability reform in 2004. Our goal is to develop a system that both promotes patient safety and reduces preventable errors and injuries.

Quality Measures
The Washington Healthcare Forum (the Forum) is a coalition of health plans, physicians, hospitals, and purchasers that has been working to improve the health care system. Our mission is two-fold: to streamline and simplify the financing and delivery system and to advance a public dialogue on sustainable solutions to the various challenges the health care system faces.

HIPAA Best Practices
Health Plans and Providers are working together to develop best practice recommendations for implementing and using the HIPAA transactions. Though HIPAA mandates how the transactions should be formatted and what codes are valid, HIPAA does not standardize how the transactions should be used to convey information in a meaningful way. By adhering to these Best Practice Recommendations, health plans and providers can help to ensure that a HIPAA transaction will mean the same thing no matter who sends or receives it.

National Provider Identifier
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, (HIPAA) mandated that the Secretary of Health and Human Services, (HHS) adopt a standard unique health identifier for health care providers.
